The Weekly Truth - v.3
Jun 07, 2006 | 12:44PM | report this

*The Weekly Truth comes to you a day early this week due to a schedule conflict on Thursday. I will be able to answer your comments though, so send 'em in. I can't wait to hear from you!

This blog is Nothin’ but the Truth!

The truth this week is:

It’s true that Toronto’s Vernon Wells gets my vote for AL MVP at this point.

It’s true that it’s only a third of the way through the baseball season, and I do not currently get to vote on the MVP, so it doesn’t matter who I pick.

It’s true that Joe Dumars will be able to cement his legacy as a great executive if he can somehow pull the Pistons away from the brink of implosion this off-season.

It’s true that Joe Dumars will be able to unravel his legacy as a great executive if he can’t somehow pull the Pistons away from the brink of implosion this off-season.

It’s true that things will really get interesting this baseball season once the Marlins conduct their semi-annual Going Out of Business Sale. D-Train in a Tribe uni? Hmmm…

It’s true that Tiger’s return from bereavement and Phil’s attempt to stride toward the Phil-Slam make this U.S. Open the most intriguing and anticipated in recent memory.

It’s true that after pushing the Mavs with no interior presence, the Suns, with the return of a healthy Amare, must be considered the favorite going into the ’06-’07 NBA season.

It’s true that no one in Edmonton, Alberta really gives a rip about the start of this week’s World Cup.

It’s true that women’s softball deserves its own World Classic since the morons at the IOC removed the sport from the Olympics. (We can’t have this, but we’re subjected to the WNBA?).

It’s true that whenever I see that Rick Sutcliff is announcing a baseball game, I do the same thing I do when I see Dan Dierdrorf announcing a football game…hit mute and turn on the radio.

It’s true that there hasn’t been a more disappointing development in baseball, which affects the entire sport, than Albert Pujols going on the DL.

It’s true that there hasn’t been a more predictable development in baseball than David Wells being on the DL.

It’s true that I couldn’t be any more excited about the dawn of the Marco Andretti era.

It’s true that seeing commercials during the Stanley Cup Finals promoting upcoming bull riding telecasts on the network carrying said Finals shows just where hockey is at in America’s consciousness.

It’s true that it’s fine to raise the flag (and wear the jersey) of the land of your heritage during the World Cup, as long as it flies beneath the flag of the land giving you the freedom to do so.

It’s true that Peyton knows down deep how much losing Edge will truly affect his shot at a ring.

It’s true that if I were LeBron, right about now I’d be enjoying my summer vacation on a warm beach somewhere, as I pour another cool drink for my new friend Ben Wallace, while we discuss the merits of the new free agent becoming my new Oakley.

It’s true that there hasn’t been an NBA Finals, wherein nothing would be surprising from a 4-0 sweep by either team to a seven game classic, like this Heat-Mavs match-up.

It’s true that a Little League game is still one of the purest forms of the essence of sports left in our country……until the parents arrive.

It’s true that absolutely nothing in the world of sports is more pride inducing or satisfying than the unveiling of your favorite teams’ Championship Ring!

It’s true that these statements are my opinions; that they will garner reactions from those who concur and disagree; and that the free exchange of thoughts and ideas and the expression of feelings are the greatest contributions of language.

It’s true that more truth will be revealed here weekly.

For now, be blessed……it’s true that God loves you.

Its true that the photo of the Steelers' new bling is not showing up in this spot.
If anyone can help this hucklebuck get his picture to show up, he would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks. mail to eg21c4@yahoo to help the dummy.

Hey Burger I sent you an email to help resolve your photo problems. Don't sweat it. Plenty of us had similar difficulty and discovered the path to prettier blogs via a fellow blogger ourselves.

As for your "truth" series, which along with "Best Damn Guard" is one of my favorite weekly series on this site, I echo your points on Pujols and Wells.

I must say I hope the D-Train finds his way to the ATL. Philly is rumored to be seeking Chicago White Sox pitcher Jon Garland via trade. Atlanta needs another strong arm in the rotation regardless, but especially if Garland finds his way to the City of Brotherly Love.

Let me know how the photo thing works out. I will check back to see if you have it on your blog later tonight.

(For lack of a better comment) It's true that I really enjoy this blog every time I read it.

I'm still not sold on Dumars - that Milicic move is still figuratively kicking him in the junk. And if Wallace walks...

True, the Suns are probably the early favorite. But I have a feeling this off-season is going to be wild in the NBA.

You nailed it with Pujols. My interest in baseball decreased by about 50% now that he won't hit 74 this year.

Speaking of softball and hockey, the women's World Cup actually pulled more viewers than Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It's true, it's true...

I keep forgetting the Colts are sans running back. I need to rethink my fantasy strategy.

The Heat getting swept would surprise me, but anything else wouldn't - I see your point.

Whew! Got it. Thank you to GBrent, MeanDovine, and Moore for coming to my rescue. That is why you three are on the Mt. Rushmore of the blogosphere. (I'll let others speculate as to who the fourth is.)

Now on to the comments.

GBrent - Thanks again. The Willis and Cabrera destinations are going to create alot of discussion. I know your Braves are going to be active for sure.
The Pujols injury was a crushing blow for all fans.

RJ - Thanks for stopping. I am glad you enjoyed it. How bout that ring! I can't wait until you and I can begin talking Steelers again.

nappy - It wouldn't be the Truth until you got here! Pujols passing Bonds this year is something we all had a vested interest in. Very dissapointing.
The NBA offseason is going to get pretty intense I think. Alot of shifting of power without too many superstar changes. Great fun! I think this Heat-Mavs series should go to a seventh game triple overtime, that doesn’t get decided until Hassellhoff and Gloia Estefan have a karaoke dual.
Loved the nickname post, and yes I'm still searching for those posters.

Thanks to all!

Great post, and dude, you can spit truisms at me anytime, anywhere as long as it doesn't arrive in the form of a Jim Rome colloquialism. Rome is more tolerable than he used to be, but he aint burger21, and that's "the truth?"

Consecutive praise from my three gurus. I'm not worthy!

I may be Roman, but I don't wanna be Rome!

Thanks for the props guys!

It's true...what you do to Rick and Dan is what I do to Brent Musburger and Jack Arute on football Saturdays.

It's also true that Marco Andretti is the new reason I'll watch Indy style racing now.

Nice post, Burger!

Thanks Belle. I wondered how you were coming with your full plate. Glad to see your surviving.

There are definitely some announcers that can ruin a great game. That needs to be a post of its own.

Another Andretti in racing is a great source of excitement all us corsa tifosi .

Thanks, as always, for stopping in. Looking forward to your finals post.

I'm about to lose some points here...

I didn't mind Dierdorf in the Monday night booth. He wasn't great, but he didn't bother me. Dennis Miller was awful, however.

I didn't mind Theismann and McGuire on ESPN. Mike Patrick can make anyone he's teamed with sound decent.

And I love Musburger even after all these years.

Ugh...Musburger reminds me of a character on the Musters with his sagging jowles and flat delivery. On the otherhand, a lot of my anamosity stems from the fact that when he covers OSU-UM games, he loves that team up north more.

ABOUT ME

burger21
I am a die-hard Steelers fan in hostile territory - Central Ohio!! I have infiltrated this vast mission field to spread the love and the light to all those who have yet to be indoctrinated
in the Gospel of the Chief. Before you suspect any bandwagon nonsense, know that my family history and heritage are immersed in Western Pa, so my current residence in this foreign land has not kept me from remaining a true American and staying loyal to the 'burgh. I am not all about hatin' my current home though. Although I despise the Buckeyes, Bungels, and Clowns, I do have some love for the Tribe and Cavs, so maybe we'll go there in future posts. Other than that it is all about the 'burgh (including Pens and Bucs), the NBA, and much love for JoePa. So grab a Pepperoni roll from Mancinni's and lets go!
