Socal's NFL Picks of the Week
Jan 18, 2006 | 7:54PM | report this

Last weekend I went 3-1 with the loss at Indy, which caught me off guard.  I will still take 3 out of 4 picks every week.  This week is one of those weeks when anything can happen, but here is the way I see it going down:

Panthers @ Seahawks:  Carolina has had a great run.  Steve Smith is getting everyone's praise about how great he is while every one and their brother is saying Shaun Alexander somehow did not deserve the regular season MVP.  By the way,  there is an MVP for the Super Bowl, so Smith still has a shot for all those that think he is the best player in the NFL.  So, with all the talk, Shaun goes out and shows why he is the MVP, Smith has a horrible game, and Seattle wins.  Everytime you pick the guy who is the best, they lose.  Ask Peyton about that.

Steelers @ Broncos:  Pittsburgh has proved they are able to beat anyone and honestly even though I picked Denver, they did not look good on offense against the Pats last week.  I think Big Ben and Bettis will have great games and Pitt wins a close one.  The ball control game of Pitt will prevent Jake from having too many opportunities to throw the ball.  Cowher finally makes it to the big game.

Well, that is how I see it.  It could go the other way, but so far I have been right 75% if the time.   Feel free to disagree and tell me why you think your team will win, as long as you don't start out by saying Steve Smith is the best player in the NFL, only 12 TD's in regular season.  Give me something else to go on, but on second thought, go ahead and JINX the guy.

I'm too lazy and uninformed, so I only picked one game this week.

Once again I hope you're right and not me

I took the easy way out and chose the home teams as you know, they are both undefeated at home this year, but I seriousely will not be at all surprised at who wins either game, all four teams are excellent.

I sincerely do not know who will win the Denver game, but I do think Seattle will kick Carolina out. Not much of a surprise on that one though. :)

Hey, not bad, Socal.

You're right. (Well, you never can count the Broncos out at Mile High.)

You also don't know who I am.

But I know who you are.

It would be easy to choose the home teams Born, and Sportsgurl I think we both know Shaun Alexander has an axe to grind with all the Smith lovers right now.
Golden glad you know me cause to know me is to love me! I just cann't love you back unless I know you.

You'll go two for two this week. Good picks. I just hope noone gets trampled when all the casual sports fans start jumping off the flavor of the weeks bandwagon. If your sick of hearing about Steve Sith as much as I am check out my post 10 REASONS the SEAHAWKS BEAT the PANTHERS you might have a chuckle.

I too like Pittsburgh but I like the Panthers. All of the spastic Steve Smith promotion was silly but he's a big game dude and well... I feel Seattle gets down a few early, Alexander's head gets unwrapped, and Delhomme delivers.

I like Denver and Carolina. Denver has been overlooked all year, everyone was talking about Seattle and Indy. I think they have something to prove and I think they'll win. I also think Carolina will win, their just to hot for Seattle to handle. I think, to me, Dever and Carolina would be the best Super Bowl match possible.

Anything can happen Matt and John, but I wrote a post last night that guarantees who will win. Read it and tell me what you think.
